XU ZIQING

Xu Ziqing (a.k.a. Katie Xu) is a versatile contemporary artist. She has an eclectic art background in product design – specifically jewelry design and fashion design, which has been nurtured by her time studying fashion design in the United Kingdom.

Sometimes her artwork reflects subconscious thoughts and the embodiment of her dreams, while at other times it is derived from a sudden thought or feeling. She hopes to show the authenticity of life and sentiment through very rough brush strokes that completely strip off any decorative style resulting in a dehydrated and primitive state – even if it seems like only loneliness, fear, and helplessness remain. Yet, a sense of humor and childish brush strokes are also found in her works. Xu is a science fiction enthusiast and in her series that contains earthlings in alien rivers she depicts human exploration of unknown worlds.

Xu’s paintings are also influenced by her fascination with the process that forms the spiritual ideology of human beings, as well as psychological issues and emotional dilemmas. And, she is keenly interested in social relationships among individuals and the reasons behind certain human behaviors.
