Artist's reflection: In this contemporary painting, the tree branches seem to be closing in and while chaotic they also seem coordinated in some way. It is this coordination and the resulting density that means viewers can't see beyond what's in front of them. 
 
The works in Li's "Wasteland" series are representations of his interpretations of what is beyond city life and therefore what represents the meaning of life.
