Artist's reflection: Shading and a clean background emphasize two flowers in a pot. Are they growing outwards reaching to something? Are they beginning to wilt? The title and scene are left intentionally ambiguous. 
 
The silence in Zhang’s paintings comes from the peacefulness of his soul. In his paintings, it is as though each color is painted on a limestone colored wall. The colors used are infiltrated by gray and white tones – thus losing their original strength, but softly and elegantly blending together.
