Artist's reflection: In an otherwise common image, several shades of different colors are used to bring alive what Zhang saw, at least in his mind. There's something comforting about this painting. 
 
The silence in Zhang’s paintings comes from the peacefulness of his soul. In his paintings, it is as though each color is painted on a limestone colored wall. The colors used are infiltrated by gray and white tones – thus losing their original strength, but softly and elegantly blending together.
